Anita Tijerina Revilla, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in Women’s Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She received her Ph.D. at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies within the division of Social Sciences and Comparative Education with a specialization in Race & Ethnic Studies. Her master’s degree was earned from Teachers College, Columbia University in Anthropology and Education and Bilingual/Bicultural Studies. She received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University where she studied Religion and Latin American, African American, and American Studies. Her areas of expertise include Social Justice Pedagogy, Chicana/o Studies, Critical Race Theory, Critical Race Feminism, and Latino/a Critical Theory in Education. Her independent research focuses on intersectionality (race, class, gender, sexuality, and immigrant status), social movements, and feminist and queer student activism.
Her recent publications include: Both Sides Now: The Stories of Desegregation’s Graduates (UC Press) and "Are All Raza Womyn Queer?: An Exploration of Sexual Identities in a Chicana/Latina Student Organization" in the National Women’s Studies Association Journal. This spring the University of Nevada Press will publish her co-edited volume entitled, Marching Students: Chicana/o Identity and the Politics of Education, 1968 and the Present.
